Just to be clear, I wasn’t suggesting that you should have handled your mortgage and escrow any differently than you did. I was just curious as to what happens to the extra taxes that are collected by the bank but not paid out; I thought you might know the answer to that. Also, another upside of having taxes escrowed, you have to pay extra at closing for the privilege of reserving your property taxes yourself instead of having it collected alongside your mortgage.

I considered those.

I am curious about what happens top the excess escrow, so I’m still calling the mortgage company about that.

Handling it myself is nice in that the responsibility, and thus power, is in my hands, but I dislike yearly billing cycles. I dislike having money that isn’t mine–especially the amount of my property taxes–sit around for that long in my bank tempting me.

Which is why I’m dumping extra money into my mortgage as often as possible. I should be ~8 years into my payments when I make my 12th payment.

And screwing up on my mortgage payment a little isn’t really a big deal while screwing up on paying Caesar his is major problems.

We didn’t escrow the property taxes. I was asking questions about how it was paid, and how much they knew to take enough out. The bank said they take out what they expect to be 14 months worth of taxes. That will cover property-tax rate hikes. But they had no answer for what would happen to the money that was building up in the escrow account and not being paid out year after year. I figured we could do better with having the excess money in a savings account. HA — interest rates made that a bogus assumption. Still, I like handling it myself.

Mammary glands. You know, those things that feed children when they are young.

Without a wet nurse or artificial substitutes (key being on the artificial here), a mother either takes charge as the primary caregiver or lets the child starve. This does allow for women to let another care for the child, but those ways are not the natural way.

Or, in the case of wet nurses, highly impracticable on a large scale.

Women are designed to be primary caregivers to children. They are. Denying such is denying nature. That will give men an unfair advantage in the business world, and the world of high power. But, at the same time, this causes men to have an unfair disadvantage in the joys of rearing children.

I don’t know about that. Why, exactly, do you theorize that women are “designed” to be “primary” caregivers? Because they’re the ones who carry the baby? I’m not sure that’s solid enough to stand behind.
